We acknowledge that English has an important place in education and in society. In order to become effective members of a community, children need to develop the ability to communicate through speech, reading and writing. Our role is to help them develop into such members.

Here at Askam Village School we aim to develop high standards through an integrated programme of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. All staff teach and model objectives taken from Programmes of Study from the National Curriculum for English 2014.  A broad and balanced approach to the teaching of English is adopted and pupils are provided with opportunities to consolidate and reinforce taught literacy skills.
