Curriculum Intent

At Askam Village School we believe in a broad and balanced curriculum. We aim to equip children with a range of skills. We strive to nurture their talents and strengthen their weaknesses. We provide something for everyone to enable our school motto to become a reality.
All our pupils at our school have the right to feel safe with safeguarding at the heart of everything we so. We will deliver a national curriculum in an imaginative and creative way, ensuring full coverage. All our pupils are entitled to a range of experienced both in and out of the school building which enriches the quality of their education. In planning our curriculum we take into account the experiences of all our pupils including those who are disadvantaged or who have special educational needs.
We develop knowledge and an appreciation of the local area with opportunities to visit and experience. We foster a literacy rich education promoting a love of reading. We embrace a range of leaning styles to make education fun, engaging and exciting.
We strive to equip children with life-skills, promoting independence and emotional resilience.
Termly reviews of pupil progress and standards of attainment in the core subjects are part of the rigorous self-evaluation we undertake to monitor the impact of our planning and teaching. Robust assessment and tracking procedures are used to support our judgements. Over the coming twelve months we aim to review our assessment of the foundation subjects.
Our planning ensures our pupils are taught skills progressively in all areas of the curriculum. Staff have worked collaboratively over the past 12 months to ensure this is in place with subject leaders taking on an increasing responsibility for this. Long-term plans for each subject map out cycles of content toe sure full curricular coverage. Staff planning maps out starting points, and explains how this develops.
Our resources help bring the curriculum to life and include equipment to support learning, enhancing the educational environment to stimulate interest, along with human resources.
